A Whirlwind Adventure Through the Caucasus

I recently returned from an incredible journey to the beautiful country of Georgia. From majestic mountains to ancient caves and charming towns, Georgia truly captivated my heart. Buckle up as I take you through my whirlwind 6-day adventure!

Day 1: Arrival in Tbilisi – Old Charm and New Vibrancy

Our journey began in the vibrant capital city of Tbilisi. Stepping out of the airport that afternoon, I was immediately struck by the blend of old and new. After settling in, I took a stroll through the charming Old Town, with its cobblestone streets, colorful balconies, and the iconic Narikala Fortress overlooking the city.

Day 2: Journey to Kazbegi – The Majestic Caucasus via the Georgian Military Highway

The next morning, we embarked on what would be the most scenic drives of the trip – the journey to Kazbegi via the famed Georgian Military Highway. Kazbegi is a border town sharing border with Russia. The landscapes were simply breathtaking! We stopped at Gudauri, a popular ski resort town nestled in the Greater Caucasus Mountains. We continued our ascent, passing through dramatic gorges and alongside winding rivers. Finally, we reached Kazbegi in the evening, with the majestic Mount Kazbek looming in the distance. We checked-in at the wonderful Guesthouse Eli.

Day 3: Snow Fun in Gudauri and Back to Kazbegi

Next morning I went for a walk to take some pictures. The call of the snow was too strong! Later we came back to Gudauri for some fun snow activities like skiing, paragliding, snow biking etc. It was a fantastic experience amidst the stunning mountain scenery. After an exhilarating day in the snow, we returned to the tranquility of Kazbegi in the evening. We went on to see Gergeti Trinity Church on top of the hill and I was mind blown by the view of Kazbegi from there.

Day 4: Westward Bound – Discovering Martvili

Leaving the majestic mountains behind, we set off towards the west, our destination being the town of Martvili. The change in landscape was noticeable as we entered the Samegrelo region, known for its lush greenery and rivers. Martvili had a different charm altogether, a more relaxed and natural vibe. By evening we reached the beautiful Odo’s Winery where we will be staying for two nights. I was excited to explore what this region had to offer next day.

Day 5: Caves and Cascades – Exploring Martvili’s Natural Wonders

Today was all about exploring the natural beauty of the Martvili region. Our first stop was the incredible Prometheus Cave. Walking through its illuminated chambers, filled with stalactites and stalagmites, felt like stepping into another world. Later, we visited some beautiful waterfalls in the area. The sound of cascading water and the lush surroundings were truly refreshing.

Day 6: Rafting in Tekhuri river

The final morning in Martvili was dedicated to a unique experience – rafting in the Tekhuri river. It was worth an adventure before we began our journey back to Tbilisi.

Day 7: Farewell Tiblisi and Georgia

Last day we spent exploring the Tiblisi city by tour car and walking. The old Meidan market is must visit. No blog is complete about Georgia without a mention about wine and chacha – a strong local alcoholic drink. We were stunned by the choices of wines across Georgia and tried a few. Later in the night we headed to the airport to catch our return flight back to India.

Georgia, You Have My Heart!
